Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re striving for a cure, by revolutionising the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia.

Story

Thank you for sparing some time to visit our JustGiving page.

Our team members are Jason Humberstone (left), Mikey Newton (centre) and Rob Jamieson (right).

For us, life is all about having incredible experiences, making countless amazing memories and building deep, meaningful connections with others along the way.

Jumping out of a plane at 15,000 ft with nothing more than a piece of nylon to break our fall therefore naturally appeals to us!

Our skydive will involve being strapped to a qualified skydiving instructor before jumping out of a plane, free falling for around 1 minute and reaching speeds of 120 mph, and then praying our parachutes open before we become uncomfortably intimate with the ground!

We decided that we want to use our skydiving experience to help a worthy cause. We chose Alzheimer's Research UK because we feel dementia heartlessly steals from people the very essence of what, to us, makes life so special. We feel that having memories, experiences, relationships and independence stolen from you is one of the cruellest, most terrifying fates a person can face, and is truly one of the great evils in this world.

This is why we would like to ask for your help in raising money for Alzheimer Research UK. This fantastic charity is "at the forefront of groundbreaking research focusing on causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatments and cures for dementia" [www.alzheimersresearchuk.org, 2019].

Their vision is "a world where people are free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia" [www.alzheimersresearchuk.org, 2019] and their aim is "to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025" [www.alzheimersresearchuk.org, 2019].

Without effective treatments, one in three children born today will die with dementia [www.alzheimersresearchuk.org, 2019].

Today alone almost 600 more people in the UK have developed dementia [www.alzheimersresearchuk.org, 2019], and there is currently no cure for them.

For every £1 received by Alzheimer's Research UK, 85 p is used to power research and develop our understanding of dementia, and 15 p is used to help raise more money and fund essential running costs.

We have covered the £249 per person cost of our individual skydives (see the initial £747 donation made by Jason in the 'Supporters' feed on this page), so you can rest assured that Alzheimer's Research UK will see every penny of your donation.

Thank you so much for your support!
