The Sailors Society needs your support…….

The third weekend of June 2012 sees the Bi-annual Sailors’ Society Three Peaks Challenge, a gruelling trek of Ben Nevis, Helvellyn and Snowdon all within 24 hours. Jon Holloway, Glen Cowsill and James Lyons, all eager and willing volunteers from BP Shipping and Wilmot Marine Services have joined up under the team banner of “Once a Sailor, Always a Sailor” to take on this exciting contest against 39 other similarly committed teams.

The world’s hundreds of thousands of merchant seafarers are a largely unseen workforce that spend months away from home each year, often working long hours in poor conditions and for low pay. They routinely face life-threatening and difficult situations, including increasing levels of piracy with minimal external support.

The Sailors’ Society is an international charity that sustains a network of professionally trained Chaplains working as ship visitors in ports around the globe providing welfare support to merchant seafarers. They listen and make sure their voices are heard and their troubles listened to and, where possible, acted upon.
