We all know how we feel about 2020. And I can barely see my screen through the tears that are welling up into my eyes as I type this and think back to January.
This year has been... hard.
On January 9, 2020, my eldest nephew tragically died in a car accident. He was a passenger in his own vehicle when the person driving decided to flee when the police tried to pull them over. That decision, and others, cost my nephew his life.
I don’t jog/run. In fact, I don’t enjoy most forms of exercise. But this Thanksgiving week, I will be participating in a 5k for the first time in my 31 years of life for two reasons: The first, and primary reason, is in memory of my eldest nephew, Tyler, who participated in cross country throughout high school and could always identify the best shoes for any occasion – most often Nikes, from what I understand, but I’m no expert.
He also had big dreams. Dreams of moving to L.A. to live
with me and my husband to design his own shoe line. Dreams that didn’t come to fruition on this earth or in this lifetime. Which brings me to the second reason I’m doing something very much outside of my comfort zone…
Chrysalis is an organization (if you’re on Facebook, you’ve
heard this before) that I believe in. As an employee, I have seen firsthand how we empower those we serve to prepare for and realize their employment goals… and oftentimes, their dreams.
I hope you will join me by making a donation today, if you are able. If not, take a stroll on Thanksgiving day with those you love.
