Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
We (that’s Charles, Tiffany and Poppy the black lab) are walking the 110 mile Cleveland Way in North England this April.
The trail is going to take us 8 days, we’ll be carrying all our kit and spending most nights under canvas. Poppy has been practicing with her backpack so she can carry the all important dog treats without having to rely on us remembering them.
Starting in Helmsley, the Cleveland Way circles its way around the North York Moors, via a white horse hill figure, the Wain Stones and Roseberry Topping. The trail finishes off with a 50 mile stretch of the stunning Yorkshire coast, passing by the cliff top ruins of Whitby Abbey before finishing in the fishing village of Filey. Except we’re walking it in the opposite direction, just ‘cos we can.
We’re walking the Cleveland Way to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society who undertake research into dementia causes, and provide care and support for people suffering from dementia and their families. This is a charity very close to our hearts, Charles’ mom had been living with dementia for a number of years when she passed away last September, she loved the English countryside, so walking in her memory feels like a fitting tribute to her.
So, lovely people, please have a look at our intro video and subscribe to our Youtube channels, we’ll be posting more pictures and videos as we up the daily step count in preparation for the walk, Poppy is especially keen to show off her moves so let’s not disappoint her.
Please also donate whatever you can to the Alzheimer’s Society, we’d like to raise £1000, but we need your help to do this.
Thanks for your generosity and we’ll keep you posted…..
