In January 2017, I'm going to Uganda on a 3-month International Citizen Service placement. In Africa, I will be working with local entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and make a positive change to their lives. 

In order to participate in this incredible experience, I've been given the task of raising £1,500. ICS is funded by the UK government, so this money will be put towards enabling other volunteers to participate in the scheme from the UK and abroad (so not towards my personal food and flights etc). This project enables local African entrepreneurs to launch their business ideas, and with the help of young and enthusiastic volunteers, create a sustainable livelihood for their future. I believe that these projects are crucial in helping people to escape poverty, as setting up sustainable businesses will create jobs and new opportunities, so fewer people will be unemployed. ICS works directly with villages that have specifically requested their help and I'm looking forward to being a part of the community and witnessing the positive change on these people's lives.

To raise this money, I will be...

• Baking and selling a ridiculous amount of cake
• Hosting a Christmas Fundraising Dinner and quiz
