Update 12th January 2021

Well here we go again - after eight months off from marathon training, I am delighted (!!😳) to say that the RNIB have entered me for the 2021 marathon due to take place on 3rd October 2021. Fingers crossed for everybody.

This will be different as although I have started to get back on the road with some light training, this time the bulk of the training will be through the summer rather than the winter months . It should make for pleasant, bright,  early morning or late evening runs rather than cold, damp and dull winter runs.

As a result of the lack of fund raising events during 2020, charities have struggled with their fund raising. Hence my target has increased from £2020 to £3000 to help the RNIB recover lost funds due to the pandemic.  PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY to this great charity that helps so many people across all age ranges as they struggle to cope with lost or significantly reduced eye sight.

Thank you to everybody supporting me.

UPDATE

Today is 26th April - London Marathon day....but alas it’s been postponed! In recognition of the day and to try and boost much needed donations to the RNIB, I decided to mark the day by cycling the marathon distance which I did earlier today around the hills and valleys of North West Hampshire. If you can, I would really appreciate your donations to this fantastic cause. I’m still planning to run in the rescheduled event on 4th October.

Thank you

15th March - I just completed the Hampton Coyet Palace  Half Marathon as part of my training for the London Marathon 2 h 9m - great course loads of people ahead of the anticipated lockdown.

In 2016 I ran in the Paris Marathon taking five hours which was a good achievement but my training was disrupted with injuries so I was very disappointed in my time.

Since then, I have always wanted to run another, specifically London. As you probably know, I suffer from macular degeneration which is gradually taking away the little central vision I retain in my ‘good’ left eye (I already lost the central vision of my right eye 23 years ago).

So, having just reached 65 years old and the play on vision with the year being 2020, I decided it would be a good year to dust off the running gear and get in training to have another go at this considerable challenge.

Raising money for the RNIB and running in their team this year seemed to me to be  the perfect symmetry for my own personal challenges with sight, the year  2020 and my age!  RNIB do great work supporting people with vision loss.

We appreciate your donation for this great cause and for your encouragement as I navigate my training schedule through our British winter!! The old legs are  very slowly starting to get stronger as I run around the beautiful countryside around Woolton Hill. The big day is fast approaching!!

Thank you!
