Communities in Tsavo are desperately in need of support. The local environment is harsh, water is in short supply and there is a human/wildlife conflict which means food supplies are constantly at risk.
In 2016 Tim and Beth Richardson journeyed to Tsavo on a volunteer project with Camps International - a company already doing a great deal to support the local communities in Makueni County. We decided to form the Black Isle Group (BIG) Foundation to support the work of Camps International and provide a specific focus on educational projects.
By focusing our support on local schools, we can provide classrooms, water storage facilities, and kitchens which will quite literally save lives. Schools quite simply provide a safe environment where children can be educated, nurtured and also provided with food and water. Such is the environment in which they live, this is not always available at their homes, some of which are over an hour's walk away.
For our first projects in 2017-18 we are raising £10,000 to provide two new classrooms for a nursery in two schools, Itinyi Primary School and Sesengy School, both in desperate need of help.
We fund raise as individuals and as a company, and with the help of Camps International, organise week long challenge projects for friends, clients and colleagues who wish to donate or even travel to Kenya and help support projects which help local communities in Tsavo survive and build a sustainable future for themselves.
It is important for you to know that 100% of the money you donate will be spent on the local infrastructure projects we select in Kenya. None of the money is spent on administration or management. This is because all of the administration, manpower and local expertise is sourced and provided by Camps International, from their permanent bases within Tsavo.
This unique arrangement means that Black Isle Group guarantee that, once identified and agreed, a project will be fully costed and underwritten by us, which ensures its completion within a given time frame.
