Story
Our family's interaction with the RAF Benevolent Fund began long before our son, Matthew, a recent RAF recruit, or I (Elisabeth) was born. It started in the 1940s, when my grandmother, Joan O'Brennan, died from cancer as a young mother, leaving four small children to be taken care of by her RAF WWII tail gunner husband, Les (still on active duty at the time). If it wasn't for the help of the RAF Benevolent Fund, the children would've had to go into a home. My uncle, Paul O'Brennan, (one of those four children), became an RAF pilot (in the gallery pics). Unfortunately, the only surviving sibling today is my mother, but the legacy continues with great-grandson Matthew's entry into the RAF, and the RAF Benevolent Fund being one of his chosen charities to support.
The RAF Benevolent Fund provide lifelong support to serving and ex-serving RAF personnel and their families. They consider any request for assistance, however big or small, providing a tailor-made approach to each individual situation. From mobility aids and confidential counselling to financial grants, they offer a range of support tailored to the individual's needs.
