No child in the UK should grow up to be poor or lonely just because they are blind. 90% of those who lose their sight in youth won’t work for more than six months in their lives. Most will never have someone to share their life with. RSBC believe in a better life for blind children.

On the 5th June this year we will set off from Whitehaven, on the West Coast of Cumbria. After dipping our tyres in the Irish Sea we will begin the task of riding 136 miles through the Lake District, across the North Pennines, and onto Tynemouth on the East Coast where the North Sea will be a welcome sight to us all.

The ride will take place over 3 days, averaging 45 miles a day, riding up some of the steepest inclines most of us have ever tackled - no problem for a seasoned professional, but probably a bit challenging for a group of lads more used to a 10 mile round trip to the off licence and back!

Founded in 1863, the Royal Blind Society is a relatively small charity providing grants and holidays to blind and partially sighted people - particularly the young, and those on low incomes. Charity is sadly an oversubscribed market these days, with a multitude of organisations trying to convince you that your hard earned pound is best given to them, and not the next desperate cause. The RBS are a traditional charity that like many struggle to get themselves noticed alongside the big boys such as Oxfam, the RSPCA, and the NSPCC to name but a few. I have seen the fantastic work the charity does at first hand, and hope you will give us any support you can by way of sponsorship for this truly worthy cause.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Royal Blind Society for the United Kingdom gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please help us!

Thanks for your support.
