This website has been set up in memory of Tim Wakefield. The charity Rainforest Concern was chosen because conservation was an issue close to Tim's heart, and something which he was actively involved in around London.
Money donated here will go towards supporting and sponsoring acres of the Choco-Andean Rainforest Corridor in Ecuador, South America. Classified as a world biodiversity "hotspot", this region is home to an amazing number of endangered species of plant and animal. New discoveries are made on a daily basis, and a great potential for discovering new medicines and food exists here.
Help is needed to buy land to complete and maintain a "biological corridor", essential for migration of animal and plant species and ensuring healthy populations. This corridor will link the cloud forests of the Andes with the lowland forests of the Choco region.
With the northern phase of the corridor (comprising 30,000 acres) completed, attention is now focusing on the southern phase, which will join the Cotacachi-Cayapas Ecological Reserve and Mindo Nambillo Reserve. The majority of donations here will go towards the southern phase, where education and alternative income generation will be a priority to reduce the human impact on the native forests.
There is more information available on the Rainforest Concern website (http://www.rainforestconcern.org/).
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Rainforest Concern will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
If you would rather donate over the telephone, please call +44-20-72292093. If you explain that you would like to donate towards Tim's account, they will know what to do!
Many thanks for your support.
