The Trust exists to celebrate the life of William Wates (1977- 1996) who was tragically killed when travelling in South America. The William Wates Memorial Trust was set up in 1998 with a mission to help disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential and stay away from a life of crime.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

I have now completed the challenge of cycling a total of 450km (280 miles) over three consecutive days.

I cannot in honesty describe it precisely as a fun experience - hills in France seem to be somewhat steeper and longer than English hills - I now have sore areas that have not been sore before - no further detail required!

It was however very satisfying to complete the challenge especially after day 3 when I wondered as I set off whether I would make it.

Just to add to the pain I also managed a good case of sunburn on day 1.  Sympathy level from Annabel very limited owing to failure to apply sun cream!

There is a great atmosphere on the tour with lots of people putting in big physical efforts and lots of camaradarie.  A great tribute to Will's memory and to Jonny's organising ability and leadership.

The thought of the sponsors who had backed me spurred me on on day 3 so many thanks to you - all further donations will be gratefully received - you can feel assured that you are backing a tough challenge which I do not anticipate repeating!

Many thanks

Tim
