Great North Swim 2009 · 12 September 2009 ·
On Saturday 12th September I took part in "The Great North Swim", the UK's largest open water swim. I was one of the 6000 competitors swimming 1 mile in Open Water on Lake Windermere in a temperature of 16 degrees. Last year I finished the swim in 46 minutes and raised over £150 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. This year I beat that time and completed in just over 42minutes. I was lucky enough to have my swim started by the inspirational Rebecca Adlington,
I swam in memory of one of my best school friends who lost her battle to Breast Cancer in 2004.
I trained hard all summer, using Ilkley Lido, my local outdoor, unheated swimming pool and I was well adjusted to water temperatures as low as 13 degrees.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me in this event both online and by sponsorship I will llet you all know my total when I've finished collecting monies in. Watch out for the tv programme on channel 4 in late September.
