Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.

Nurse Edith Cavell was executed on 12th October 1915, by a German firing squad during World War I, for her role in assisting over 200 soldiers to escape from occupied Belgium.

On the Sunday nearest to the anniversary of her death I am leading fund raising guided walking tour for the Cavell Nurses Trust. The 45 minute tour is in the grounds of the Royal London Hospital, East London, where Edith Cavell trained and worked as a nurse.

“Patriotism is not enough, I must have no hatred or bitterness to anyone.” is the famous quote from Edith which is on her memorial near Trafalgar Square.

On the morning of 12th October the annual wreath laying service will take place at her statue near Trafalgar Square. (Photo was taken at 2014 ceremony).

I first became involved with the Cavell Nurses Trust in 2014 when I led a couple of guided walks for them, and since then I've been leading an annual anniversary walk. The Trust, named in memory of Edith, provides financial support for nurses, midwives, student and retired nurses, and it’s nice to see that people who are so used to giving are able to get support when they need help.

I hope you will be able to join me this year.

The details of the walk are:

Date:  Sunday 15th October 2017

Time:  14:30

Duration:  45 minutes

Meeting Point:  Outside the Entrance of Whitechapel Station (District, Hammersmith & City and East London Lines, Zone 2) Kindly note the Whitechapel Road entrance to the station is currently closed. We will meet and start the walk outside Whitechapel Station, Court Street , E1 entrance.

Cost:  If you would like to join the walk I request a £5 donation to Cavell Nurses’ Trust which is payable either through the Just Giving Page or payable on the day. I will keep a list of those who have donated and please note places will be limited to 25 people.

If you are unable to attend the walk but would like to give a donation that would be much appreciated too.

I hope you will be able to join this special anniversary walk in memory of Nurse Edith Cavell.
