BHard Ultra Race · 10 June 2022

LSC promotes the use of facilities for swimming, including swimming skills and water safety, for the local community. This needs to be affordable to all. We are run entirely by volunteers, who we train, to enable both children and adults to swim in a safe and friendly environment.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

With the experience of lockdown, I developed a greater desire for freedom. Cycling has provided this in abundance over the past 2 years. As a result, I felt the need to challenge myself and find my limits. Hence signing up for the BHard Ultra Race. The furthest I've ever ridden in one day is 115 miles. I have no experience in ultra cycling. This will take me way outside my comfort zone. It will involve cycling about 745 miles across Bosnia and Herzegovina, a ton of mountains to climb, more than I can even imagine. And only 90 hours to do it in!!

To make it to the start line as prepared as possible, with every chance of making the finish line, I will have to train hard. I will have to apologise to my family and friends in advance, as my weekends will be taken up with cycling mile after mile. At the moment, the idea is to cycle to Norfolk and back one weekend, to north Wales and back and maybe Scotland. But as and when I plan and execute the long training weekends I will post about it on her and on my Instagram page. (tinaneedsanadventure).

Lordsfield Swimming Club in Overton has been invaluable to me both as a teenager and now as an adult. This is why I have chosen them as my charity to benefit from all my suffering to come.

Please read how important the pool is to the people of Overton and if you can afford it, please donate to this worthy cause.

Overton's community pool has been a feature of village life for more than 50 years. It was established in 1963 and literally dug and built by the community, lead by local parents Stan Stott and Charlie Thorne.

The pool is currently run by 120 volunteers ranging in age from 16 to 80 years old, doing everything from being trained as lifeguards to run swim sessions, to maintenance, admin, pool plant room operators, social media etc etc. Our membership last season was over 800 with ages ranging from 1 year to several regular swimmers well in to
their 80s.

Our low-cost memberships enable all members of the community to use our pool. However, that does mean that we need to fundraise for training, maintenance, and repairs. With a major refurbishment project to replace the pool lining and rejuvenate the pool plant room and surrounds - now more than ever the pool needs funds to secure it for
the next generation of Overtonians.

What do our members and
volunteers say about the pool and what it means to them?
The number of volunteers that are keen to help and keep the pool open shows how important it is to village life and what amazing community we live in.

"My kids learnt what it's like to be part of a community who support each other. Maybe that why we get young people joining the ranks of our volunteers when they're olderThe pool is just amazing!"

"The pool side attitude embodies inclusivity. This should be something to build on and an example for others to follow. I am proud to be a small part of this wonderful village asset."

"Volunteering made me feel valued, useful and gave me a sense of purpose that I had thought I’d lost. I’m so very grateful for the friendship and positivity that the pool community offers."

Thank you and good luck with your chosen adventures this year. :)
