Story

Tish and Sally are Trekking on the Great Wall of China in October 2017 to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Cornwall Hospice Care has been the chosen charity of The Bowgie Inn since 2012 and to date they have raised nearly £35,000.00.

Sally first became involved with CHC in 2012 when she embarked on a trek in Nepal to Sir Edmund Hillary’s Base Camp on Mount Everest.   On the journey in Nepal Sally learnt from her fellow trekkers about the work and support that Cornwall Hopsice Care give to families in our local community who need their care.  This inspired her to learn more and do more and the Hospice became the chosen charity of The Bowgie Inn at Crantock.

Since then Sally and Tish have held events at their coastal pub, including an Annual Ale Festival now in it’s 6th year.  New Year’s Eve Parties, James Bond Theme Nights and an annual Grunge Night disco.

Sally has also climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and trekked in the Sahara for this much needed local charity.  She was invited to Mount Edgcumbe Hospice to meet HRH Earl of Wessex when he visited in 2015.

So what’s next?  Tish and Sally are going to trek in China in October 2017.

They will fly in to Beijing passing over the Great Wall and from there will begin their trek.  Taking in parts of the ancient wall and learning about it’s history and the Chinese Culture.  Some days they will trek as far as 14km.  Some parts of the trek will be challenging due to some tough ascents and difficult terrain.

The Challenge is an “Open Challenge” which means that no part
of the sponsor money goes towards the trip.  Tish and Sally have booked the trip with Expedition Wise themselves and designated their fundraising to their chosen charity Cornwall Hospice Care, so you can rest assured that all money raised goes directly to the charity.

Tish and Sally will be training a lot in the coming months to prepare for the trip.  They will be out walking in all weathers using trekking poles and often with their Parsons Jack Russell, so if you see them on the South West Coast Path in training they will be recognisable and they will more than likely have their collection tin and sponsor form on them, so look out, be ready to donate if you have not already done so here!
