Polish Doughnut Day at GUCA

Marianna Dore is raising money for Mary’s Meals

Polish Doughnut Day · 17 February 2023

Mary’s Meals is a global movement that sets up school feeding programmes in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. The charity now feeds more than 2.6 million children every school day and it costs just £19.15/€22.00 to feed a child for a year.

Story

Tłusty Czwartek, translating to "Greasy Thursday" is the Polish equivalent of Shrove Tuesday, celebrated by eating lots of doughnuts on the Thursday before the start of Lent 🍩

This Friday, the 17th of February, a (doughnut-frying expert) friend and I will be making traditional Polish doughnuts at Turnbull hall, where the Glasgow University Catholic Association have kindly given us the space to do so. Doughnuts will be ready after the 1:05pm Mass (from 1:30) throughout the afternoon, you are welcome to drop by at any time! The address is 15 Southpark Terrace, Glasgow, G12 8LG.

This event is a fundraiser to support the work of Mary's Meals, an amazing charity that provides school meals to over 2.4 million children around the globe, including Aleppo in Syria. They have recently launched a Syrian appeal so that they may continue to reach children whose lives have been devasted by the recent earthquakes.

We think a doughnut (or two 😋) in exchange for supporting such an important cause is a pretty sweet deal, but we'll let you come and taste for yourselves 😉 Donation is possible through this page, or in cash on the day, and we are most grateful for any support.

Thank you!
