Theo vs The Tyne

Theo MacKenzie is raising money for Breast Cancer UK

Theo Rows the Thames · 1 October 2021

Breast Cancer UK raises awareness of the preventable risk factors for breast cancer. We provide practical information to help lower people’s risk. We campaign for policy change to support prevention, and fund scientific research to help improve our understanding of how to stop the disease.

Story

The Challenge is to row the length of the Tyne (118km) and cycle from Farnborough to North Shields (491km), where the mouth of the Tyne is, eight miles away from Newcastle. All this done within the month of October.

Why?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and I wanted to do something to help raise money to support a cause close to my heart.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 and went onto defeat it (because cancer stood no chance against that stubborn woman!). That was with the help of many charities and of course the NHS.

However, some of those closest to me have not been so lucky and I want to continue raising money to help defeat this horrible disease.

So I hope you can support me throughout October (I am not the biggest fan of rowing...or any cardio for that matter) and we can raise a great total.

Also check out my Instagram/Facebook pages for a little rowing challenge you can do for yourself in October.

Thank you!

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. Over 55,000 women and 390 men a year are diagnosed with breast cancer. Yet a quarter of these cases are preventable. Breast Cancer UK is working to prevent breast cancer through education, scientific research, collaboration and policy change.     Breast Cancer UK provides practical advice and tips on how we can reduce our risk. They campaign for changes to national health policies to support prevention, and fund research to help improve our understanding of how to stop the disease.
