Story
Throughout my life I have had anxiety and depression. The more recent bout came at the hands of an L4-L5 disc herniation. This injury meant I had to have a back operation. On a visit to my consultant he said “if your 1 month old daughter is crying you cannot pick her up” this single instruction sent me spiralling down a dark path and when you combined it with an insidious concoction of pain, medication, sleep deprivation, financial worries. It is no surprise that it started to take its toll on me.
Fast forward two years and I am just climbing out of the grip of depression. I started getting into the wolf run just as a personal challenge I did the first obstacle course “Spring wolf” on the 13th of April 2019 and this was done in 2hrs and 15 minutes. For a while I toyed with the idea of running for charity and decided to run for mental health to help those who are in a similar situation as I found myself in.
A good analogy for struggling with mental health is the thigh high deep dark mud I and many other wolf runners found ourselves falling, scrambling sliding crawling through. The more you fight the mud the more it sucks the energy and fight from you. If you ask other runners for help you clamber together regardless of sex, skin tone, sexual orientation. Just you and other runners and a high sense of camaraderie
Yesterday; the first of June 2019 marked the day I completed the summer Wolf Run half way to my Alpha wolf (title earned by completing all four seasons of Wolf Run) with just 14 weeks to go my focus and dedication to both causes is high!!
