Story
Tobias was a perfectly healthy and very happy 14 month old boy, totally full of life with a big beaming smile. When we left for work on the 11th May 2020 we had no idea just a few hours later wewould next see him in resus having CPR (I work at the hospital). Tragically Tobias couldn't be saved and 7 months later his post mortem confirmed that no reason for his death could be found. Over the last 18 months we have found alot out about SUDC and how it's the 5th leading cause of child death in the UK but very little funding and therefore research goes into it. It is a devastating event in any family and often leads to families facing long waits and invasive tests for conditions, particularly cardiac conditions, but worst of all it leads to a life time of torture always wondering why and what if?
SUDC UK is a charity co-founded by three bereaved mothers to focus on the ‘why’ so we can better understand the cause(s) and help prevent the sudden unexplained death of children in the future. SUDC UK is dedicated to increasing awareness in the UK and funding crucial research. The sudden unexplained death of a child is one of the most under-recognised medical tragedies of our time. SUDC is the Sudden Unexplained Death of a child over the age of twelve months. Over 40 children 1-18 are affected each year in the UK.
