Welcome to my JustGiving fundraising page! I am taking part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon in support of The Royal Marines Charity. 

I have had an injury for several months and was considering giving up my place. However, on receiving the fundraising pack I saw the work they did with limbless veterans and felt ashamed of my attitude. In training the Royal Marines are taught to abide by an ethos called 'Commando Spirit'. I will do my best to live up to their high standards and complete this half marathon without stopping or walking.

Some comments from the charity: 

Royal Marines pride themselves on being the first to understand, first to adapt and the first to overcome. They are deployed on duty serving the nation around the globe 365 days a year on anti-piracy and anti-smuggling duties, protecting our nuclear deterrent, on Special Forces operations. They form only 3% of UK Defense forces but provide form 47% of UK Special Forces personnel. They are more exposed than most service personnel to danger and more likely to face injury or death.

So the Corps set up its own Charity in 2010. We are uniquely placed to understand, respond and react, enabling Marines and their families to overcome their challenges including life changing injury, life limiting illness, mental disability, transition to civilian life and even poverty. We provide cost-effective support combining professional guidance and services with effective grant-making, in co-operation with partner agencies, other charities and business. This is funded by money we raise ourselves - we receive no Government support. This year we need to raise over £4 million.
