Why Mosterton Pre-School?
The Pre-School have been an integral part of our two children’s educational journey to date.
Our son Jesse who has Down Syndrome with associated additional needs, has particularly benefitted from all the brilliant facilities at the Pre-School, coupled with fantastic support from the ‘Yellow Ladies’ since starting there in 2020.
How will the money raised help Mosteton Pre-School?
In the words of the ‘Yellow Ladies’/Co-Managers Lea and Lorna……..
With the Pre-School being a charity and the global pandemic that has hit us over the last 18 months or so, we have noticed a huge reduction in our fundraising opportunities and funds which really limits our potential for further development. Whilst we feel the Pre-School children have been impacted greatly by the pandemic, we continue to offer normal opening at the Preschool and are working hard to reduce the developmental impact on our children with the opportunities we offer.
We are continually striving to offer the best learning experiences and opportunities for the children. A vast amount of our learning takes place outside and we are very lucky to have a large outdoor area, offering lots of space and opportunity for different learning areas which we have been continually developing over time. With the money raised we would very much like to continue to develop the outside area. Our ideas include a planted area with shrubs and plants that specifically attract bees, butterflies and insects for the children to observe, be involved in their environment and take care of living things.
We would also like to purchase some large equipment that is suitable for obstacle course building, encouraging climbing and balancing skills with the children. This also supports the children's confidence to persist with developing new skills.
Our love of reading and promoting this with our children is always a focus at Pre-School. Inside our rooms we have comfortable, cosy reading spaces to share a book that are well used, we would like to replicate this further outside. The outside area is used in all weathers so this would need to be an large, enclosed space to keep us all dry and the books, blankets and cushions protected. We have seen plans that are available to purchase a wooden hut/den that we would love to have built within the garden to use as an outdoor reading area. This would of course involve materials and labour costs to achieve this. The use of such a space outdoors would be so beneficial to continuing to promote books and important aspects of language development with our children.
