Story
Hello everybody!
We hate running. We've never run further than to the pub and back. Holly has weird feet. Based on this, we've decided to run 26.2 miles at the Brighton Marathon in April 2019.
As many people reading this will know, in 2016 our friend Willie was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma, an incredibly rare type of cancer which has a survival rate of approximately 50%. Sadly after an unsuccessful first round of treatment, the disease has spread and Willie's cancer is now incurable. The cancer has also compressed Willie's spinal cord leading to neurological problems and has resulted in Willie having to use a wheelchair.
Since this has all happened, we've been looking for a way to show our support and love for Tom's oldest and best friend. The marathon will be a real challenge, we are training hard and are absolutely committed to finishing it in one piece! We want to raise as much money as possible for Sarcoma UK so every donation will be hugely appreciated.
Sarcoma UK is the only cancer charity in the UK focused on all types of sarcoma. Sarcoma is one of the hardest cancers to diagnose, and is difficult to treat. Bone cancer survival rates have not improved in the last 30 years, and we want to help change this. This year, partners of the National Cancer Research Institute reported a total spend in 2016 / 2017 of over £683.3 million on cancer research, of which just 0.06% was directed specifically to primary bone cancer.
Thank you very much for reading, sharing and donating. We'd love as many of our friends and family to come and shout for us on the day too, so put Sunday 14th April in your diaries now!
Love,
Tom & Holly
