Story
I attended the London Marathon this year as a supporter with my wife who was photographing the day for Young Lives vs Cancer.
Our friend Sami told us her story battling cancer at 19 and the support she had with the charity (then Clic Sargeant), she now works in the team at YLVC - it's clear how much it means to her and to be able to support her running the marathon this year after waiting since 2019 was emotional and inspiring.
Though I've not been affected by cancer as a young person myself, my Mum had leukaemia when I was a baby and that experience is something that's meant a lot to my family and I after all these years. I know I want to run for a cancer charity, and it makes sense to run for a charity which does such a lot of good.
I always thought I might run a marathon and was working towards this goal over ten years ago when I was advised to stop due to a knee injury - I never picked it back up again after that.
Cheering a friend on this time made me believe I could do it again, and I'm not kidding myself in thinking that this won't suprise people who know me now - it's quite out of character in that sense! I know that's going to be worth a good bit of sponsorship money alone, so I'm happy to prove them wrong!
And anyway, my legs are comedically long and if that short woman can do it then so can I.
Plus I look good in pink and black. 👌
