Tom's Lockdown Lengths · 15 September 2020

We're talking mental health. We provide mental health training, resources and consultancy with a focus on children and young people. We work with young people, parents and carers, schools, colleges, universities and employers.

Story

Hi, I am Tom .  I am 10 years old and during lockdown I set myself the challenge of swimming the equivalent distance of the English Channel.  That's 21 miles (33.8 km...).  I tried to do 500 meters a day but sometimes managed over a kilometre.

My brother Jonty (age 8) swam further than the distance to school (7.5 miles) and Rosie (age 4) taught herself to swim and tried to keep up with us too.

We wanted to raise money for the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust for lots of reasons.  It is a small charity and so hopefully anything we raise will make a big difference to it.  Also, Charlie Waller went to my school and so I feel a connection to the charity.  Most important, its a great charity.  It helps young people who are struggling with their mental health both by helping that person but also supporting parents and schools that are worried about someone.

I have read that lots of people have struggled to manage with lockdown and I hope charities like this will help them.
