The Big Thames Walkathon for mental health! · 13 March 2021

We’re Mind, the mental health charity, working across England & Wales. We believe no one should face a mental health problem alone. We’re here for you. Whether you’re stressed, depressed or in crisis. We’ll listen, give support & advice, & fight your corner. Thanks for fundraising for national Mind.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Mental health is important to each and every one of us. Lets not forget that the brain is just another organ in the body that can become unwell just like every other part of us. Our mental stability is constantly held in balance with the increasing pressures of everyday life, certainly during these times of instability and change. Most people will know somebody who has been affected by mental health problems, something which often carries no obvious physical symptoms. For this reason, awareness and letting people know it’s ok not to be ok is so important and that is at the heart of what our chosen charity, Mind, stand for.

Recent global events only compounded an already growing trend of mental health issues in everyday society, which now affect 1 in 4 people in the UK. We hope that our very small part may just help somebody in need to reach out, and for that alone it is worth our efforts and demonstration of gratitude to the work of this fantastic charity.

So on the 3rd April 2021, we are aiming to walk 50 km (31 miles) along the Thames.  If we hit £250 we will double our efforts covering a total distance of 100 km over two days.

** WE HIT £250!! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to this cause so far. We have been overwhelmed with the generosity of friends, family and colleagues! Tom and I will now be walking the extra 50 km the following day for this great cause. Please keep donating what you can, we have raised the bar to £1000! :)

Its been a tough few months for everyone, now in the third national lockdown as we write this page. If like Alex and Tom you enjoy going out and socialising with friends, you have probably been able to save a penny or two. The cost of one single drink, from a single social occasion of the many that you probably would have attended over the past year could make the difference. We invite you to grab your favourite drink of choice, whether it be a caramel latte or strawberry daquiri and donate the price of it to this good cause. The price of just two drinks could offer a lifeline to someone in desperate need of support by letting the Mind infoline team answer their call.

So please donate what you can, together we can make a difference for a big cause :)

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

The walk is of course subject to government guidelines. Rest assured that the walk will be completed as soon after the 3rd April as possible, if we are forced to delay. We hope that you will have us walking another 50 km so if nothing else the possible delay gives us a bit of extra time to try and find some fitness! :)

We look forward to extending the invite to join us on the walk to our friends and family government permitting.

Many thanks,
