Story
Thank you so so much to the many many people who have supported me in successfully achieving this one... what an amazing experience! :) In particular thanks Pippa, Edie & Charlie; without your love, support & positive energy I am quite sure I would not even be here... much less an ultra-athlete!! :D
In July I plan to cover 100km of the ridgeway national trail (Lewknor to Avebury) non-stop (or as non-stop as I am able at least!) to raise as much money as I can for Macmillan's valuable work supporting those with cancer.
The reasoning behind this is that on 13th November 2020 I was diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer, aged 33, and put on to a course of treatment involving chemotherapy & radiotherapy.
Since then whilst my health journey has been very up and down and I'm still in and out of medical treatment regimes, fortunately my overall health actually appears to have massively improved over the past two years to the point that I was able to successfully complete the London Marathon in 2021.
Since I have proved running and training for a marathon in spite of a challenging cancer situation possible I thought I would take it up a knotch by signing up to the 2023 Ridgeway Trail 'race to the stones' 100km (60mile) ultra-running event!
Wish me luck. :S
Setting off from Lewknor in Oxfordshire, the adventure into the North Wessex Downs begins. Wandering through golden corn, vast fields and stunning countryside as far as the eye can see. From the Uffington White Horse to Liddington Castle, your journey promises to be rich in both history and breath taking scenery.
