Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In November last year, after an incredibly brave resistance, my Uncle Clive died of Cancer. Uncle Clive lived with the terminal diagnosis he was given by his doctors for nearly 12 months. His determination and strength of character, and his relentlessly enthusiastic appetite for all aspects of his life kept him healthy for large parts of last year, and happy.
Helping Uncle Clive resist the cancer was the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre. The BHOC care for up to 1000 people every week and provides specialist non-surgical treatments for people with cancer, and for people who do not have cancer but require specialist radiotherapy or haematology services.
As well as being the cancer treatment centre for Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset, they provide specialist services to people from across the South West and is also the dedicated centre for teenage and young adult cancer services.
This year I am running (as oppose to running and walking like last year) the London Marathon to support the BHOC. I am running for Bristol University Hospitals umbrella charity 'Above and Beyond' but have requested that the donated money goes in full to the BHOC so they can continue their wonderful work treating patients, and supporting patients and their families.
There are many wonderful cancer charities out there and all are equally worthy of our support. I have chosen the BHOC because they looked after my uncle and his family, are the size of organisation that feel every donation, and would possibly be mine and many of my friends and my family's and their friends and their family's (and so on…) local cancer centre.
Please give what you can afford to give. The folks at BHOC can continue to do what they do best with our support. Thanks!
