Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Pursuing Independent Paths, or PIP, is a unique charity in London offering adults with disabilities support and skills training to gain  independence. Development  workers offer a bespoke range of flexible and dynamic courses including a full range of training and education, including literacy and numeracy, travel training, vocational and employment skills, work placements, and support into mainstream education.

Many people take for granted basic skills used on a day-to-day basis for which an adult with a disability may find much more challenging. For instance, using public transport to travel to and from a place of work is thought of as being simple for most people commuting in London, however a person with a disability such as Down’s Syndrome may find this unachievable. Part of PIP’s Person-Centered-Planning is ‘travel training’ which offers the students the practical skills required to undertake individual journeys on public transport. The project instills service users with the necessary skills, confidence and abilities to travel independently within the community allowing the student to gain confidence and a level of independence.
