Edinburgh Marathon 2023 · 28 May 2023 ·

The South African Children’s Charitable Trust believes that every child, no matter what their background has the right to reach their potential and dream big. Current circumstances do not define who we become and it is vital to empower every child with this belief in themselves.

Story

Hi guys,

IT’S MARATHON TIME!

So, having completed a half one of these puppies 3 years ago, I vowed never to take on the full beast for fear of shattering my knees. Well, this year we’re throwing caution deep into the recycling bin. If Simon Pegg can do it, so can I! (Pegg is a method actor, famously both becoming fat and running for his titular role in Run Fatboy Run, 2007).

WHICH MARATHON?

In our sights is the Edinburgh Marathon on the 28th of May (which is scarily soon). Alongside my 4 living colleagues (Harry, Orlando, Hugo and Alex), I intend to trundle these 26 miles to celebrate finishing our university careers, whilst hopefully raising some money for those in need.

THE CHARITY

The charity I’ll be running for is the South African Children’s Charitable Trust. They work with a variety of select partner groups working in South Africa to empower disadvantaged children, giving them a chance to reach their potential, rather than fall victims to debilitating poverty. Aside from providing basic human rights like food, clothing, accommodation and education, they also target the areas of orphan support, leadership development skills, community health and sustainability.

100% of every donation goes directly to helping children and young adults on the ground.

Your donations of any and all sizes will be massively appreciated.

I think that when running this sort of distance, at least from a first timer’s perspective, you can quite easily break at some stage and lose sight of why you must carry on. In this way, your donations will not only be helping amazing children get their fair chance at life,  they’ll be the fuel pushing me forward and across the finish line.

I thank you in advance for all that you give.

Peace & love,

Tommy
