Great Birmingham Run 2016 · 16 October 2016 ·

With a new blood cancer diagnosis every 27 seconds worldwide, Cure Leukaemia funds research nurses at UK blood cancer centres, giving patients access to treatments through clinical trials. This support drives global significant advancements in blood cancer, impacting those affected by the disease.

Story

My dad recently passed away after a year-long battle against leukaemia.

Leukaemia is an incredibly isolating disease. During treatment the immune system is wiped out, which means any illness is life threatening. As a result, you are unable to enjoy seeing friends without fear of infection. I don't want to see anyone else go through it. Raising money for cure leukaemia is the small part that I can play to help improve treatment/ find the cure for future patients!

On a more personal level, when my dad was diagnosed, I stopped playing cricket and other sports so that I could be with him in the hospital. He used to worry about my diminishing fitness so he would be thrilled to know that I'm running and getting fit again! Knowing that this would make him happy is a huge motivation for my training and encourages me to get the best time I can in my first ever race! :)

Thank you so much for any donation. It is truly for an excellent cause. Every pound inspires me to make that extra little effort for the run!

Thanks again,

Tom.
