Walk for Waste · 16 July 2016 ·

1 in 3 people globally do not have a waste management service and have no option but to burn or dump their waste, much of it ending up in the oceans. We share waste management and recycling skills that help people to help themselves from poverty, improve public health, and protect the environment

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Tom's Walk for Waste.

On July 16th I will be hiking the Llanberis Path to the top of Snowdon - Wales' highest peak - in order to raise awareness of important waste management projects in the third world.

As a journalist who writes frequently about the UK's (sometimes) shaky record on the environment, our problems pale in comparison to countries where waste is not just an eyesore but a serious health hazard.

WasteAid UK works with partners in The Gambia and Senegal to train people in using recycling technologies to improve quality of life.
Money raised through my walk will be used to fund much-needed practical projects in these countries - from simply composting food waste to recycling plastic bags to reduce the number of mosquito breeding grounds.

As a reluctant veteran of both the West Highland and Great Glen Ways, there is a 45-50% chance I will complete the walk without falling flat on my face. If those odds sound good to you, please give whatever you can via the links provided. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.

Onwards and upwards!
