Story

On 28 July 2013, l will be competing in the London Triathlon 2013 in support of both Macmillan Cancer Support and the Corinne Burton Memorial Trust. My target is to raise over £1,000 for these two wonderful organisations.

I have chosen to enter the full Olympic-distance triathlon (1.5km swim, 40km cycle, 10km run) in support of both Macmillan and the Corinne Burton Memorial Trust. The reason for this is that I feel very strongly about fundraising for charities which provide support, especially of a therapeutic nature, to those suffering from cancer. Whilst almost every family in the UK has been affected by cancer in some way, my partner's family have been particularly closely affected - they lost their mother Corinne Burton to breast cancer in 1992. The art therapy that she received during the years that she spent fighting her disease was a powerful therapeutic tool, one which gave her the quiet determination to continue fighting.

The Corinne Burton Memorial Trust was set up with the twin aims of firstly providing funding for students to study the Art Therapy Masters course at Goldsmith's College and secondly to fund the placement of experienced art therapists in centres for cancer support around the country.

I feel that the aims of both the Corinne Burton Memorial Trust are closely aligned and am proud to be supporting both these organisations.   I would be grateful for any contributions that you can make. Any amount, big or small, will be gratefully received.
