By listening, YourStory's expert mentors are able to understand an individual’s ambitions, the support they need, and the challenges they face before matching them with a network of businesses and organisations to help them succeed.

Story

I take part in a yearly challenge to raise money for charity. These have included Tough Mudder, the Nike 10k run and taking part in a charity boxing match. I have decided to up my game this year and will be abseiling down one of the tallest buildings in the London skyline – The 540ft Broadgate Tower.

There are two main reasons I challenge myself like this every year. Firstly, I like to push myself and prove my own strength in the face of a challenge; this motivates me in the face of other life challenges. Secondly, it’s rewarding. I am raising money for a small charity in Lambeth called YourStory (www.yourstory.org.uk), that works with young people who may not have had the best start in life and having made some bad choices along the way.

YourStory delivers an alternative education programme to ensure that these young people have the opportunity to achieve their basic GCSE’s. We also work with them on their personal development, teach them how to make informed decisions that will serve them well and help them to develop the tools they need for a successful and meaningful life.

I am involved in developing an in-house mentoring programme to provide each of these young people with a dedicated mentor. This is to ensure they receive as much personal support as possible. Similarly, we are also developing an in-house counseling programme to allow our young people and staff the opportunity to access couselling and psychotherapy.

By donating to my (terrifying!) abseil you will be a part of this project. YOU will help these young people to have a better chance at life.

Please donate any amount; every £1.00 we receive takes us that little bit closer to our goals! We are very grateful for anything you would like to give us (we know how hard it is to make money!!).

If you are a tax payer – good news! If you click on the gift aid box whilst donating, the tax is paid by the Government, ensuring the charity receives the full benefit of your donation.
