We breed and train guide dogs to give blind people freedom and mobility

Story

I have been a Guide Dog owner for just over two and a half years. Since my significant sight loss caused by my optical nerves failing some years ago having a Guide Dog has given me a new lease of life. Gaynor (my Guide Dog) is 4.5 yrs old and she is wonderful.  She helps me  get out and about everyday and do the things I need to do.  But she has also helped me get out and enjoy life again like going to rugby matches and visiting different parts of the U.K. and I can do lots of this on my own thanks to having her and having the confidence she gives me.  Doing this fundraiser is to show just how much my Guide Dog helps and how wonderful Guide dogs are and what a difference they can make to the lives of people like me. I am starting off from Lands End at approx 13.00 on Thursday 20th June and arriving in John O’ Groats at 16.00 (approx) on Friday 21st June (the longest day). 2 buses will be used from Lands End to Penzance and Thurso to John O’Groats and will involve 3 trains to make the journey. Sufficient rest and relief time has been allowed at all change points and due to the timetables it can’t be done any quicker. I hope you will be able to make a donation to this wonderful cause.  Thank You.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
