Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi, i’m Tony, a twenty seven year old guy from SE London. I think the most important thing for me to stress first, is that I am not an experienced runner. Up until the end of last year I struggled to run for my morning bus, let alone even contemplate doing a half marathon. Sports and physical activities have never been a strength of mine.

Somehow, by a very coercive family member, I was talked into doing the Paddock Wood half marathon in April, and thus began my running career. I started off with a few short runs here and there, before really getting into a training plan. In February, after 6 weeks training, I managed to complete my first 10k, the London Winter Run.

I will be completing the Royal Parks half alongside my aforementioned coercive family member aunty Terri. Aunty, mother of three, Winter Run polar bear, and avid park runner (recently completed her 50th park run!), so I have a lot to live up to.

There were a couple of reasons I wanted to get into running, and enter the Royal Parks half, but the most important for me was the charity I would be running for. I have chosen to run on behalf of Little Heroes Comics, a new charity set up by my brother.

Little Heroes Comics is a UK based charity that creates and distributes comic making kits to children through hospitals and healthcare organisations across the UK.

The charity started in March 2017 when its founder, my brother and Terri’s nephew, Aaron Rackley wanted to give back to the hospital that helped him during his own time battling cancer in late 2013. He set up a JustGiving account and set a target of £1000 with a plan to create 100 comic making kits.

The support and the feedback from not just the medical field but also the comic book community was so great that Aaron decided to form the charity officially and set out to find funding to create more.

Little Heroes is a registered charity and has been alive for over a year now, so far raising over £10,000, which has enabled them to send over 700 kits out! Fundraising for Little Heroes is a combination of generous donations from individuals and grants from the government, however Little Heroes has just released its own Anthology. The First Anthology ‘Strength’ is a selection of 11 stories all based around the title’s theme. The pages are filled with stories from various creators who have donated their work for free to enable the Anthology to come to life. It was recently successfully funded via Kickstarter and is now available to purchase from the Little Heroes online store.

Due to the amazing success of the first anthology and high demand for more stories little Heroes are back fundraising for their second anthology titled 'Family', comprising of 13 more stories. Find out more information and back it today online via the link below:
