Story
As I gear up for my 40th trip around the sun, I'm taking on a challenge that, let's be honest, I never saw coming - the London Marathon. Now, let me clarify, I'm no Mo Farah. In fact, these days, I'd struggle to outrun a snail on a lazy Sunday.
When growing up, who was your hero?
Some might say Macho Man Randy Savage, or the Green Power Ranger. For me, it was my grandad, the best storyteller I ever knew. A prankster, a family man, and a military hero who rocked out to Buddy Holly. He was my superhero.
In 2001, my grandad Eddie faced his toughest battle - cancer. That's when Marie Curie stepped in, providing vital support to him and our family during those challenging times. In his memory, I'm hitting the streets of London on April 21st.
Now, turning 40 and attempting a marathon might sound like a midlife crisis in the making, but I'm doing it with a purpose. I'm raising funds for Marie Curie, a charity that holds a special place in my heart. Your support can make a world of difference – £20 could mean an hour of crucial nursing care at home for someone facing a terminal illness, £57 could offer an hour of expert nurse support through the helpline, and £180 could provide an entire night of care from a Marie Curie Nurse.
So, whether you're reminiscing about wrestling legends and Power Rangers or just someone willing to help a fellow human raise money for an incredible cause, I'm asking for your support.
Donate, share, and join #TeamMarieCurie in making a difference! Together, we can turn a marathon run into a race for compassion and care for people with terminal illness, and their families . Thank you!
