-J. Yancey Williams 1861-1901 was born in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, USA, to W. J. Sullivan and Edith Williams, a mulatto. He was  born in a segregated USA as President Abraham Lincoln was leading the War and ultimately emancipated the slaves of the USA. Yancey was a family man (husband and father). He was a Freemason and owned land that he worked until his death.

He was surrounded by military men. In his direct ancestry are Revolutionary War and Civil War veterans. His son, Private Charlie R. Williams, fought in World War I, and his grandson, Technical Sergeant Albert B. Williams, fought in World War II. Some of his great grandsons served in the military during the Cold War and they spent time in Korea.

He also have great great grandchildren that are military veterans including me. I have served over 19 years in 12 countries and have deployed in the US War on Terror and fought in Afghanistan.

In our home town, there is a road named "Williams Road", which runs along the land that he and his wife, Katie Maiden Williams, once owned, inherited from their fathers, my two great great great grandfathers, Sullivan and Abraham Maiden, Katie's father.
