Story

Our Story - The journey of Tortoise and 12 Hares …. On a cold wintery afternoon, we set off on the long road to Mayfair in a mixture of onesies and T-shirts. Stopping off along the way at College Farm for our first picture taken by a passer-by. After we crossed at Henley’s Corner, Theka started her mission of collecting vital funds for Noah's Ark - stopping in various nail shops, hairdressers, fishmongers, coffee shops, bus stops, the queue outside the bakery and the chicken shop, where they wanted a picture of me and Theka. Theka cleverly said donation first and they happily threw some money in our bucket! Lots of people were interested in what we were doing - especially people passing by who stopped to talk to us and all the builders! When it came to collecting money - Theka really was our gal and she was very polite too, wishing everyone a good day even if they did not give anything! Our next stop was Hoop Lane Cemetery and then some more collecting at Golders Green. From there we headed straight down to the O2 Centre, stopping off in the Noah's Ark charity shop along the way for a photo with the staff. We stopped for toilet breaks and then waited 20 mins for some to get frozen yoghurts (you know who you are!) :P) We carried on our journey stopping again for plasters before getting another picture at Swiss Cottage tube station. From there we walked on … bumped into the other group and carried on to London Zoo. We had a picture taken with the giraffes and one outside the zoo (kindly taken by the gentleman working there). At this point a few were starting to give up due to the intense pain from their blisters/legs hurting, but we soldiered on with Michelle Casey and myself marching ahead … We took a few more pics in Regents Park and then headed down to Marylebone. From here we started getting odd looks as we approached Bond Street… and We lost a few of the pack who got caught up at the previous traffic lights so we waited for them on a packed Bond Street in the late afternoon. We then made our way to Grosvenor Square to take our last pics with two statues - one of which we could not find and realised we had walked right passed it on the way in! At that point no one believed me that we had 5 minutes to go as they were reeling from the pain of their blisters ...  We arrived safely in Park Lane, shattered and aching but enjoyed every moment of it! ;) We had such good fun on this journey from Finchley to Mayfair for Noah's Ark Children's Hospice. Thank you to a fantastic team for making this walk a fantastic experience x
