Prostate Cymru, is the leading charity in the Principality working with medical professionals in the fight against all prostate diseases. Its mission is to raise awareness, promote understanding and fund both the latest medical equipment and the training of healthcare professionals.

Story

 Thanks for taking the time to visit our 'Touching the Sun' project JustGiving page on behalf of Prostate Cymru Charity Trust.

 The Itinerary for this unique project is set out below;

The departure date for Touching the Sun will be Thursday 18 July 2013 from Cardiff International Airport. The current schedule is currently being held on an option with KLM and is as follows;

The InCountry programme is inclusive of ALL accommodation with breakfast as described transport by 4x4 or bus (depending on group size), all food (except in Quito) on set menu basis, farewell dinner at Rumiloma in Quito, refuge and park fees, 1 bilingual qualified guide per 2/3 climbers on Cotopaxi summit day, one for every 5 climbers on Ilniza North. The items not included are meals in Quito (except for Farewell Dinner), extra hotel nights for unexpected changes in itinerary, extras and tips.

 

TOUCHING THE SUN – InCountry Programme

Day 1: Arrive in Ecuador, altitude acclimatisation in Quito, overnight stay at Hotel Reina Isabel or similar -  http://www.hotelreinaisabel.com/

Day 2: City tour, equipment check, overnight at Hotel Reina Isabel

Day 5: Hike to hut between Illiniza Sur and Norte. Mules will assist with the transport of our equipment so you will not be burdened with large packs. Overnight in the hut. B,L,D -

Day 6: Today we will climb the north peak, which provides an excellent acclimatization ascent and an enjoyable rock scramble. Views of the Avenue of the Volcanoes are impressive from here.  After the day’s activities we descend to the comforts of a warm bed and a shower Overnight at Hacienda El Porvenir. Day 7: We will wake up early and depart for Cotopaxi. We drive to approximately 15,092 feet on Cotopaxi where we take a short 45 minute hike to Jose Ribas hut. Rest and prepare for our climb. Overnight in hut. B, L,D
Day 8: Summit Cotopaxi. We will depart at 1 a.m. and hike up the scree slopes until we arrive at the glacier. From here we ascend snow and ice, arriving at a steep section just below the crater rim. After ascending this short section, we arrive at the summit where we can peer into the mountain’s crater or enjoy the view of the countryside. B,L,D -

Day 11-12: In the morning we hike up to the 16,405 foot Whymper Hut and prepare for our climb. After an early night to bed we wake-up around midnight to begin our ascent to the summit. After a couple of steep sections on the glacier, we will arrive at the false summit. From there it is about an hour climb to the highest point in Ecuador. After enjoying the views, we descend to the hut and catch our ride for some R&R and a great Ecuadorian dinner. Overnight of day 12 at Hotel Reina Isabel.

Day 13/14: Fly Home.
