Tailor Ed Foundation is a small, independent charity committed to improving the quality of life for children with autism and their families. We offer a home based service, where we teach practical skills and provide useful strategies tailored to your child and family. This service is available free of charge to families with a child with autism from the age of 3 to 12, living in the City of Edinburgh. We target practical skills, from getting dressed and toileting, to brushing teeth and going to bed, as well as most things in between.
One of our Warriors has a son who is autistic and she speaks first hand of the difference Tailor Ed can make.
It is very hard to explain to people what it means to educate a child with autism. As a parent you feel powerless and completely out of control because you can’t teach your child in the same way you would do with a neuro-typical kid. Tailor Ed Foundation offers free home therapy (child specific) based on a Behavioural Analysis approach and guidance to parents. I am not part of those families who are helped by Tailor Ed but we share education and therapists. Our life has changed since we have been able to nurture our little boy again and I can guarantee the same would be for all other families helped by Tailor Ed. The therapy offered by this charity is expensive and only some families could afford it. However, it gives autistic children a chance to grow up as independent adults and unlock their potential. I feel every child with ASD should have a chance to learn and grow in this society. Tailor Ed offers this and I feel proud to support them as much as I am proud of being a mum of a special boy!
