Story
Three crazy lunatics completing the Tough Mudder Midlands Belvoir Castle (10 miles + 25 obstacles) on 18th May to raise awareness and much needed pennies for Thrombosis UK.
Tragically in 2018, we lost a very dear friend Adam Craig (34 years young) to an undetected Pulmonary Embolism (PE). Despite various 'standard' NHS checks leading up to this heart breaking event, key warning symptoms of PE (e.g. unexplained breathlessness) were overlooked and misdiagnosed by medical professionals, which could otherwise have been routinely treated. Nothing can ever bring Adam back or fill the void left by Adam's untimely passing, however, things can and must be done to prevent this completely avoidable situation happening to any one else. The Thrombosis UK charity and WorldThrombosisDay initiatives are striving to address this very issue.
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a condition in which a blood clot forms most often in the deep veins of the leg, groin or arm (known as deep vein thrombosis, DVT) and travels in the circulation, lodging in the lungs (known as pulmonary embolism, PE). Together, DVT and PE are known as VTE - a dangerous, potentially deadly medical condition.
1 in 4 people die from causes related to blood clots
Please read: http://www.worldthrombosisday.org/issue/vte/pe/ and educate yourself with the symptoms. A recent World Thrombosis Day Ipsos survey showed little awareness of PE.
Please share: The time is NOW to educate your family, friends and colleagues. It could one day be the difference for you or for them.
Finally, if you are able, please sponsor us to get electrocuted, submerged in freezing water and generally covered in mud all in the name of this hugely worthwhile charity! We promise a picture or two of us along the way so you can see how you've helped play a part in motivating us for this gruelling event too!
Thank you so much, Dean, Ellie & Debbie xx
