Tour de Epynt

Tour de Epynt · 2 April 2021
On Good Friday, a team of four range wardens working for Landmarc Support Services will take on a lone Paratrooper racing over 38 miles. The route will start at Sennybridge Camp and climb up to Mynydd Epynt before circumnavigating the range road and dropping back down to the camp. The route is as tough as it comes, it negotiates every live firing range including five significant river valleys. It has an elevation gain equivalent to summiting Snowdon four times from sea level.
The Paratrooper is an experienced ultra runner with years of experience of running long distances. But the Landmarc team also have long distance experience and will make this a very tough challenge for him. Each of the four members will only be allowed to do one leg each and each member must do at least a 5 mile stretch. Their success will come down to the tactics of how they configure their team and what distance each person does. Do they put their fittest member first and try to break the paratrooper early? or do they shield their slower members by giving them smaller legs and utilise their fitter members for longer sections?
For the Paratrooper, does he go hard early and try to break the teams will to win, or does he wait for the slower members legs and really damage them; nullifying any impact the fitter members will bring. Can he even match their average pace?
The team will do this to raise funds for Brecon Mountain Rescue Team who cover all military training activities on the Brecon Beacons.
