Brainwave is a charity that helps children with disabilities to achieve greater independence. Aiming to improve mobility, communication skills, and learning potential, through a range of specialist therapies.

Story

Leia first visited The Brainwave Centre in January 2013. We went down to Somerset and met Leia's therapist, Becky, and her colleague Denise, the process lasted two days.  After just the initial meeting and a few questions Becky told us that Leia had Sensory Processing Disorder and explained about the vestibular (balance) and proprioceptor (the body's position in space) systems and how they affected Leia. This was a truly enlightening moment. It explains so much of Leia's behaviour and helped us understand new ways to help her. The start of the Brainwave programme has also helped along with Leia's fabulous school, Isobel Mair, to educate Leia. We can't believe how far Leia has come with her literacy and numeracy skills thanks to the advice of Brainwave.

Two years on and we still see Becky every six months. She always gives us great advice on a wide variety of issues and always has great ideas on how to problem solve them. Leia has come so far these last two years that she managed to complete an aerial assault course (not without a few dramas but completed none the less) whilst on holiday in October. This would not have been possible without the help of Becky and Brainwave.

Brainwave heavily subsidises the costs of the assessments (hundreds of pounds) and parents only have to pay 20%. They can only do this through fundraising. This page is our thank you to the whole team.
