Story
Please join me in supporting the dedicated athletes and families of Special Olympics New York
For as long as I can remember, I have always had a passion for sports. I dedicated most of my childhood to being a competitive figure skater, a sport that, from an early age, taught me the meaning of commitment and determination. While I no longer compete, I knew I wanted to share what I had learned by becoming a figure skating coach with the Special Olympics New York (SONY).
From August 19th-22nd, I will be joining 29029 Everesting in Snow Basin, Utah, an event that provides its participants with the opportunity to hike up a mountain 13 times in 36 hours, or the equivalent vertical feet of Mt. Everest. While I have developed a love of hiking in my adult years, this event, in particular, shares a common goal with the SONY – fostering drive, inclusion, perseverance and confidence. We may not always win (and I may not make it to the top of the mountain!) but challenging ourselves and encouraging others are core tenets shared by me and those who are a part of the SONY family.
All costs are covered for the athletes and their families who participate in SONY programs and competitions. Yes, that means, due to the generosity of donors, there is a singular focus on providing the gift of sport to those with intellectual disabilities. Please join me in raising awareness and funds to support these inspiring athletes and in helping them unleash their inner champion. 100% of your donations will go directly to the SONY.
If we surpass our initial goal of $13,000, then our next hurdle is $36,000.
