Story

Zoe's Journey UK has two aims.  To raise money to help further the vital canine cancer research currently being carried out at the University of Edinburgh.  To support people whose pet has been diagnosed with cancer, or have lost their pet to cancer.

The facts behind this horrible disease:

1. Cancer affects 1 in 4 dogs.

2. 50% of all dogs over the age of ten will at some-time, be diagnosed with some form of cancer.

3. Lymphoma is one of the most common cancers in dogs.  It is also one of the quickest to spread and kill.

4.  Cancer does not only affect older dogs, dogs as young as 12 weeks have been diagnosed with cancer.

5.  There is no government funding for canine cancer treatment.

6. Despite aggressive treatments, survival rates remain low with many (not all) cancers.

Lolly was our first dog and fair to say she was a diva known as Princess Lolly.  She lived a wonderful life with us for 11 years with her Rescue brother Declan who adored her.

Unfortunately she had a funny turn in December of 2019.  After tests, it was thought she had a growth on her spleen and it was decided that we would opt for the treatment to remove the spleen, in January of 2020.  During the operation, I received a phone call at work to confirm that the growth was in actual fact lymphoma on her liver and could not be removed.  The treatment was palliative care for her remaining time.

Lolly continued to lead the life she had grown accustomed too with Declan and lived it with enjoyment and love.

Lolly passed away at home on the 30th October 2020 with her loving human family and brother Declan with her.  Gone but never forgotten.

Unfortunately, Declan could not live without her and on the 4th December 202 he joined her at Rainbow Bridge - running free together.

London Marathon 2022 will be my 11th and last Marathon, as I lost my bears when they were 11 it is a sign.  What better way to end my marathon adventure than raising money to support research into the canine cancer that robbed us of our beautiful girl and boy.

Run free my beautiful bears.
