Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
He's my story of why we are raising money for Alder Hey Childrens Charity.
My little boy, Alexander, was born unexpectedly on 16th February 2013 at 28 wks, 2lb 14oz. What a shock that was!
At 3 days he was rushed from North Staffs to Alder Hey Childrens hospital as he was suffering from NEC (Necrotising Enterocolitis). This is a common risk with premature babies. It is when the part of the bowel dies, leaking toxins into the body. It was a race against time to get the operation completed as soon as possible. We arrived at Alder hey at 8pm. He had his op at 11pm and it lasted 3hrs. Me and my husband, Adrian, both sat anxiously waiting in the parents room, not knowing what we were going to be told. You always think the worst. Alexander was so tiny, how could he survive such an operation??
The consultant came to us a 2am, the operation has been a success. What a relief! He had part of his bowel removed, and remained separated in 2 parts for the time being.
The next 3mths were spent at the Neonatal department within the Liverpool Womens hospital. Alexander was recovering and growing. He has to be 5lb to have his second operation at Alder Hey to rejoin his bowel.
On 2nd May we went back to Alder Hey to have his final operation. Another worrying time, but a success.
He's our little fighter. It was a truly difficult time, and something I would not like to repeat. It has been difficult choosing which charity to raise money for as so many were involved in Alexanders survival - Liverpool Womens Hospital, North Staffs Hospital, Bliss - but we have chosen Alder Hey as this is who ultimately performed the life saving operation.
The support we received was brilliant, I cannot thank them enough for saving our little boys' life.
Raising money is my was of trying to give a little bit back to the people who played a big part in Alexanders journey.
Any money raised will help provide life saving equipment aswell as equipment for the children, such as crayons and paints, so they can have the best possible experience, during their time at Alder Hey.
I am doing this trek with my sister, Louise, and two best buddies, Liz and Jo. The trek will also be part of my 40th birthday celebrations. What a way to spend your 40th! Trekking for 12 hrs, but spending it with my buddies ad raising money for a great cause.
Your sponsorship will be greatly appreciated!
