Story

Thanks for supporting my chosen Charity, Harrys Rainbow through this JustGiving page.

So what's this all about ? It came about as my friends 14 year old son wanted to try out abseiling and he needed to be accompanied by an adult. I have always fancied the challenge of abseiling down the National Lift Tower so offered my services. At a staggering 418 feet high, it is the worlds largest abseil tower and I see it everyday from my home often watching people abseiling down.

We have chosen Harry's rainbow as it is a charity that supports children with  parental and sibling bereavement . My three nephews suffered with parental bereavement when they were just youngsters and Daniel's mum has a personal connection to the charity.

Harry's Rainbow support children and young people in the Milton Keynes and surrounding areas, who have been bereaved of a parent or sibling. They provide various support services which are designed to ensure that bereaved children are supported in the grieving process, from provision of books and resources and individually tailored memory boxes. They also provide to activities that promote wellbeing by building confidence and self-esteem.  Facilitating contact with others who have also suffered a bereavement can also reduce the feeling of isolation and loneliness

The support package they provide is predominantly built to support the bereaved child, but all activities consider the whole family to ensure that parents and carers are involved and also supported as a result. This also includes the larger extended family where there may be step siblings and parents.

They have registered 41 children this year and each child has received a prepared memory box with carefully selected items inside such as a notepad, pen/pencil, Rainbow bear, a memory bracelet and some sweets. They also research and provide suitable books and resources. Each box with contents generally costs around £50 to produce so any donation small or large you can make will make a difference.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure, they'll never sell your data or send unwanted emails. Once you donate they will send the money direct to Harrys Rainbow.

For those that are eligible , Gift Aid will apply a further 25% donation so every little amount does count.

I hasten to add, I do like a bit of adrenaline, jumping out of a plane was scary, surreal and fabulous. However, this is a challenge which will definitely test me and push past my comfort zone and I thank you once again for your support.
