Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have been a volunteer with Ability Shetland for over 20 years, and over that time I have seen the difference that the charity has made to people who live with disability and their families. I am raising money to allow the services that Ability Shetland provide - various social groups, sports groups, and the equipment that is available to hire for example the Wootton Lass (A boat based in the local marina which can be booked for short sight seeing tours or fishing trips) or the all-terrain wheelchairs (which allow people with physical disabilities to access areas of the island which have more difficult terrain and a normal wheelchair would be unable to access easily - for example the beach or coastal walks that may be uneven surfaces). Without additional fundraising we would be unable to provide as much support as we currently do and we are always looking at being able to provide more services to help more people.

In July this year (2023) three months to the day to be exact. I will be travelling to Caernarfon at my own expense, where I will be undertaking the Snowdon Sea -to - Summit Challenge.

I will pedal through the picturesque coastline, past the historic Caernarfon Castle before winding my way through the back door into Snowdonia National Park. The journey will take me along beautiful cycle paths and through the rolling Welsh countryside and quaint villages with the peak of Snowdon looming in the distance. Arriving at the base of the mountain I will swap the bike for my walking boots, and begin my ascent of the highest peak in England & Wales, the mighty Snowdon at 1085m via the Snowdon Ranger Path on the west side of the mountain which carves its way through picturesque farmlands, past beautiful lakes and then follows the ridgeline all the way to the summit I will then start the descent to the northwest via the more gradual Llanberis Path, finishing in Llanberis
itself. Following the decent I will then start paddling around Llyn Padarn completing a large circuit of the lake.

Approximate Distances

Cycle 16miles; Trek approx 9miles & Kayak 2.5miles

I am also going to be holding a local bingo night and climbing the Rigging of the Cutty Sark Tall Ship.
