Story
The Great North Air Ambulance Service rescues hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year throughout the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatments at the scene of the incident, whether on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre. The charity responded to more than 1,600 call-outs last year via their helicopter and rapid response vehicles, performing treatments and procedures which can mean the difference between life or death.
I have chosen this charity because as a nurse that lives in North Yorkshire, and who works at a GNAAS receiving hospital, I have had first hand experience and witnessed the impact that this invaluable service has on patients lives. This charity is vital, and not one of us know when we may require the help from their fantastic critical care teams.
