My mum was diagnosed with the rare condition of PBC a number of years ago.  Without the help and support of the PBC foundation, not only would my mum have been lost, but all her friends and family would be too as the doctors knew very little about it.  With the foundation hosting events throughout the country and producing a quarterly magazine, this has gave my mum peace of mind that she isn't alone with this condition. Reading stories of how others cope with it and different symptoms has helped my mum cope with what she goes through on a daily basis and helps her family understand too and offers advice on how we can help.

"PBC (Primary Biliary Cholangitis) is a long-term, auto-immune condition which affects the liver. In simple terms, the body thinks that the bile ducts within the liver are foreign objects and tries to destroy the lining to these ducts. These bile ducts are designed to allow the flow of bile from the liver, so damage of these ducts leads to poor drainage of bile acids. The bile acids then leak from the bile ducts, damaging surrounding liver cells, which then causes inflammation and scarring in the liver".

Im hoping putting myself and Bethan through our paces on this muddy 10k obstacle course will encourage people to donate to help the PBC Foundation continue to provide this support base.
